The interscholastic program at Trinity Catholic is one that has a very rich and rooted tradition. Competing in the prestigious Fairfield County Interscholastic Athletic Conference, the largest high school sports league in New England, has allowed Trinity Catholic to gain statewide notoriety for its many fine teams.
Boys and Girls have a wide range of sports in which to participate. Girls can choose to join Soccer, Cross Country, or Volleyball in the Fall; or Basketball in the Winter; and Softball, Tennis, in the Spring. Most of the girls’ teams have both a varsity and junior varsity program. City, league, and state championships have been won by the Volleyball, Track, Cross-Country, and Softball teams during recent years.
The boys also have a wide range of sports in which they can participate. The Fall program offers a choice of either Football, Soccer, or Cross Country. In Winter season boys can choose Weight Training, Basketball, or Ice Hockey. Baseball, Golf, Tennis, and Lacrosse are offered in the spring. Virtually all of the boys sports are offered in three levels – freshmen, junior varsity, and varsity.
The winning tradition in boys and girls sports has been a rich one. State Championships have been won in: Football, Volleyball, Cross-Country, Basketball, and Softball; League and City Championships have been won in Football, Hockey, Basketball, Baseball, and Softball.
Trinity Catholic has had many of its athletes honored on the league and state levels. Many have gone on to play on the collegiate level, often on an athletic scholarship. A few have been gifted enough to play sports on a professional level.
Certainly, the success of Trinity Catholic’s athletic program can be directly attributed to the quality of athletes who have attended the school. But a large part of the success has been due to the outstanding coaching staff that Trinity Catholic employs. Any student who plays a sport is coached by a dedicated professional who cares not only about winning but also about the student as an individual.
Trinity Catholic encourages you to participate in its sports program. High school sports is a great place to learn about the values of competitiveness, honesty, integrity, teamwork, and most important, how to deal with success and failure. It is a great training ground for what you will face when your school days are over.
ELIGIBILITY RULES
Eligibility requirements at TCHS are more stringent than the minimum required by the CIAC. Those participating in interscholastic athletics at TCHS must pass al least four subjects while not failing more than one. More than one failure for a quarter will render the student ineligible until the next report card is in hand or ten days from the close of the marking period, whichever comes first. Students ineligible may neither try out nor practice with the team.
Eligibility for the first marking period is determined by the student’s previous end of year grade report. More than one failure on that report for the entire year makes the student ineligible unless the course is retaken and passed in the summer.
** The above mentioned rules are the minimum and by no means inclusive. We reserve the right to add or modify these rules.
